Here's what you need to know about I Can't Get Married before you tell your story:

1. We believe that everyone has a story and that every story can inspire change.

2. We believe that everyone, gay or straight, shares like experiences. The point of I Can't Get Married is to show same- sex marriage supporters and opponents alike that we're all the same; therefore, we all deserve the same rights.

3. We are not a website specifically for writers. There is no "audition" process. Send your story, pictures, videos, etc. and, we'll publish them. If you're not comfortable writing, send us a few pictures; after all, they tell a thousand words.

4. Just because you're not in a relationship right now doesn't mean you don't have a story to tell. The fact is, if you're gay, you can't get married. Your story is just as valid and powerful as that of a person who IS in a relationship.

5. Not gay? No problem. There are more straight people in this country than there are gay people. If we want to achieve marriage equality, we need your help. That's just math. If you want a good example of how the story of a straight ally can help the cause, check out Jason's Story.

6. I Can't Get Married understands that some of us are more "out" than others. If you have a story that you want to share, but you're not comfortable with everyone in your class, on your block, or at your dinner table knowing that you've shared a story with a same-sex marriage equality website, we'll respect your privacy. Want to publish your story under a pseudonym? No problem. Want to publish your story anonymously? No problem.

Now that you know what we're looking for, there's no reason you shouldn't send us a story. Any story you want to tell that somehow relates to marriage or relationships will do. Tell us about being little and fantasizing about your wedding. Tell us about your first date, your first fight, your first visit with the in-laws. Tell us about arguing over what kind of catsup to buy when you and your partner go grocery shopping together. What are you waiting for? Email your story.
