Our Mission

According to the latest numbers, if you ask 42% of Americans if they are in favor of allowing people in same-sex partnerships to marry, they'll say yes. This is the highest this number has ever been. Why then does it feel like we're still so far from achieving widespread equality? Is it because, for most of these supporters, same-sex marriage equality isn't something that affects them directly, so it hasn't occurred to them to speak up? What we need is for members of the GLBTQ community and all of our straight allies to treat this issue with the sense of urgency it deserves. We need to remind people that the hundreds of thousands of Americans in this country who don’t enjoy the same rights as the majority of citizens aren’t just some abstraction. They’re your sons, your daughters, your bosses, your friends.
I've started this site as a place for you to post your real life stories highlighting the ways in which, gay or straight, we’re all the same. I’m sure some of your stories will be uplifting, while others will be frustrating. I know all will be inspiring. Can you believe that in 2010 in the United States of America a website like this is still necessary?
Join me. Together maybe we can help increase the number of people who support gay marriage equality. Maybe if we remind everyone in our lives that there are real people out there whom they love and care about who CAN'T GET MARRIED, we can convince those who already passively support equality to take the next step and actively demand it.
If you would like to share your story, your pictures, your video or some combination of all these, emailicantgetmarried@gmail.com Have a story you’d like to share, but writing isn’t your thing, email icantgetmarried@gmail.comand I’ll do anything I can to help.
Optimistically yours,
Carrie
